Back in the early the 2000’s, circa 2003, a few years after Hasbro purchased Wizards of the Coast, Wizards started what would eventually be 27 separate releases of the Dungeons and Dragons Collectable Miniatures. The paint jobs ranging from passable table top quality to much worse. The miniatures were mostly of a soft bendable plastic.

17 sets were issued in blind boxes. Players would get a selection of prepainted miniatures ranging in frequency from common to rare. As is the case with this type of product, a player would have needed to purchase lots of boxes or try get what they needed on the secondary market if they wanted to run a particular type of story.
Hasbro ceased the support for this game in 2008 with the Demonweb set. However they released unpainted versions of some of these figures in boxed games. Some appear in the D&D adventure series of board games. Also there are painted variations in the D&D skirmish game Dungeon Commander, and prepainted sets of selected figures.
One of the best parts of this series of miniatures was the swath of games that had could use these miniatures. Most could be used in the D&D Collectable Miniatures Game, D&D Role Playing Game and the D&D Dungeon Commander Game. They fit well in most dungeon crawler type games like HeroQuesst and Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Additionally they are still usable in the current edition of Dungeons and Dragons more than 20 years later.

Demonweb was the last official Release for the Dungeons & Dragons Collectable Miniatures Game. With that release Wizards of the Coast posted updated Skirmish and roleplaying cards for all of the miniatures releases current at the time.
Faewild
Canceled

60 miniatures
Faewild was canceled, though a little over half of them, 33, have been found in the wild bearing the Faewild logo and a set identifier of (C)2009 WIZARDS C-082A. I attempted reconstruction of the logo for this article, though building a gallery was not possible.
Here is a list of the Faewild miniatures reported to have appeared with the Faewild icon on the bottom of the base. Some of the Faewild sculpts were reused in later non CMG sets and with alternate paint schemes.

The next iteration of collectable miniatures for Dungeons and Dragons were not intended as part of the CMG. They were sold in large clamshell packs with a single large miniature visible and 4 random miniatures hidden in the card stock section of the package. These less-blind packages did not have cards for the skirmish game but did include cards for the roleplaying game. They were also based on the Monster Manual book publication.

The Lords of Madness set returned to the blind box format. These contained 6 random miniatures, 1 Huge and 5 others. They were themed on Lords of madness book release.

The Icons series was dedicated to the scale sized dragons. These miniatures are large, with the Colossal Red Dragon measuring in at 40.64 cm high x 38.1 cm wide (wing span) x 25.4 cm deep. For Americans that would be 16″ x15″ x10″. Calling these a “miniature” is almost a misnomer. They are massive.

Legend of Drizzt Scenario Pack contains 2 character miniatures Drizzt Do’Urden and Wulfgar along with the dragon Icingdeath. The marketing image provided a scale to compare the white dragon to the regular sized miniature line.

The Player Handbook series miniatures were issued with 3 miniatures per package, and had two sets. Each package was dedicated to a particular type of character. These were not blind boxes. Nor were there skirmish cards issued for them.

Dragon Collector’s Set
2011

5 miniatures
I use many of the Dungeons and Dragons miniatures in my HeroQuest games as well as many other fantasy and sci-fi games. Unfortunately they are becoming difficult to locate at what might be considered as a rational price.
