Visual reference for HeroQuest 2021 Edition using the Blackjaw, The Sweeping Flame & Unburnt Reavers (2019) by Steamforged Games. This is a warband for the Godtear board game. It provides 6 Orcs HeroQuest players can to use as alternate hero types, monster types, or named villain types.

Blackjaw, The Sweeping Flame & Unburnt Reavers

As everyone that plays HeroQuest knows, the main villains are often represented by the Dread Sorcerer miniature, per the adventure books. This effectively blows the feeling of the quest sideways, when the villain is not a sorcerer type. Here is a visual reference to allow for options. Because I like the female elf miniature from the 2021 edition of HeroQuest, I have elected to use it as my reference in all of my images.

Elf – vs Blacjaw the Sweeping Flame

Occupying 4 squares, Blackjaw is visually an end of the questline character, like the Frozen Horror. This figure is far too large to be cut from its base and glued to a smaller one. Perhaps it can be used as a giant orc with stats to reflect its size.

Elf – vs – Running Sword Orc

I know it looks like the orc is dancing, and if you cut off the sword held in the right hand I suppose it could be. But It can also be an orc armed with a short sword and armor. A general squad sized leader or a minor orc hero.

Elf – vs – Orc with 2 Swords

This orc with 2 of the broad bladed swords and armor could be used as a mercenary using the same or similar stats as the Elf Striker.

Elf – vs – Orc with 2 Handed Sword

With a 2 handed sword and heavy armor this could be a hero for certain, or even an enemy “tank” to hold off the heroes while the other monsters swarm them.

Elf – vs – Orc with 2 Handed Sword

Another 2 handed sword and heavy armor orc. Perhaps the khopesh-ish style of shield hook could have an advantage versus shieled wearing heroes.

Elf – vs – Orc with 1 Sword 1Bracer Blade

This orc had to be angled like this to show the bracer blade as it blended in with the over all yellow if the miniature in other versions of the photo. Still a very interesting take with a short gladius style sword and bracer blade the same size.

Elf – vs – Orc Standard

One of the nice things about the Godtear warband packs is that they come with a “standard”. This is not always the same thing as a traditional flag style of standard. These are often very flavorful pieces of terrain or decor that can add to your HeroQuest game.

In the end I was very happy with this warband pack and the options it provided me with alternatives to the Dread Sorcerer. I found the it very nice to have multiple unique sculpts to allow for different stats to keep my players on edge for each new encounter. I have posted a PDF file of these reference images for download.
